Is a strike with one 3000 kg any different to a strike with two 1500 kg FABs? Is it a big deal to combine the power of two previous bombs into one? Or is it just theatrical? Trying to create alarm or fear. It might be there is some advantage in doubling the power over two half power bombs. We need some objective facts. Not just the subjective feeling.

@kenrik2105 Shotgun effect. Presumably principle behind cluster bombs too. So the scatter has advantages. What is the advantage, if any, of combining into one bomb? Merely psychological shock and awe?

@kenrik2105 If a plane can be modified to carry one 3000, can a plane not be modified to carry two 1500s? Sounds like a science they would have worked out in WW2.

@kenrik2105 There must be a plan for bigger FABs. The modifications must have a development roadmap.

@kenrik2105 Quoting Wikipedia “By 1942, the State Defense Committee of the Soviet Union perceived the need for weapons that could hit hard industrial and military facilities, marshaling yards and fortifications, without the usual scattering of medium-weight bombs.”

@kenrik2105 maybe the advantage needed is to focus the charge to break into very tough buildings or bunkers (bunker busters). The need for FAB 5000 and even 9000 was long ago recognised. To make these glidable must be one challenge, mass producable another, then a way to carry them.
