If Ukraine has real power for an offensive, why is not using it already? Why is it not preventing overthrow of what was called Bakhmut? Why is it not saving lives of those it sent to fight there? Amassing forces is not the same as an army and offensive. An army is more than numbers. It takes spirit to go on the attack. If 40,000 lack spirit to attack, they are not really an army. If they cannot get what it needs to attack now, how will that change later?

@talidari true, true. The very fact most NATO countries have seriously scaled back their militaries in recent years, decade or more, show they have no serious intention to wage a full scale war. A major offensive would require some kind of follow-through and there is no serious support for that. Imagine that an attempt is made to move an army towards Crimea. The commitment this would entail is too much. Imagine it runs out of steam and runs beyond the HATO ability to support it (typo there but it looks right so I’ll not correct it). The soldiers would be left out in the open and easily encircled. Like historic attacks on Moscow. Then along comes some more late cold weather and snow. Bam! Disaster. And NATO would be obliged to try to save the day but with no ability to follow through and it would look utterly weak to the world.

@talidari Apart from USA where guns and violence overflows daily with no intention of ever scaling back, other countries are scaling back military as part of their prowess as successful nations, with no real need or desire to go to war and mostly pacifist (almost) citizens more used to office jobs and artisan coffee shops (not the Amsterdam variety). The appetite of the collective West outside of USA for full scale war is zero. I expect no offensive unless madness drives people to follow USA into normalised violence again.

This war serves three purposes, to right some wrongs going back a long time, to free some oppressed Russians in Donbas, and thirdly, to show the utter folly of American warmongering.

Lots of attacking going on by the real armies. Lots of offensive happening in Backmut and elsewhere. If either could do more they would be doing it. Indeed it applies to both sides, except one is more vocal about offensives than the other. Or maybe it depends which news sources you watch.

@christophersmith8316 Agreed but I suspect the real reason (the Spring has been here a while before this recent snowy spell) is that the amassed tens of thousands are relatively untrained, without much battle experience. Not likely to make much difference to outcome. Not ready but commanded to advance anyway.

Snow didn’t delay the offensive in Backmut. Maybe it hid the mines under a protective layer making advance safer. It would have made trenches less effective too. Snow was taken advantage of by ready troops who saw their opportunity.

With it being religious season for Christians and Jews when we remember words of scripture, teachings of God, remember that Solomon was wisest of kings and lived in relative peace all through his reign, untainted by blood of war on his hands and therefore considered fit by God to build the Temple.

@ahmedvawda1282 they did not like him at all did they. Not sure he likes then either. Like the second thief on the cross who only mocked Jesus. No promise of paradise for him, only for the one who changed his mind and asked forgiveness.
