You summed up why there are only houses in North American neighborhoods; you have to drive there!
The Corporations Agenda 21 has already happened!
After my first Europe living experience, where, you do not have to own a car, everything is within walking distance, street cars stop at every corner (are on time), train stations..hop the street car, multi-generational mom and pop shops everywhere, after that, I hated even visiting America, let alone living there.
America; the most miserable, unlivable place I have ever been!

The Dutch are very practical people!
Unlike America, where everyone is a criminal until proven innocent, the Dutch had a problem with drunks leaving a bar, hopping on someone else's bike and riding it to the next bar.
What did the Dutch do? They took a number of bikes (probably old ones), painted them white, put them outside bars, now anyone wanting to hop a bike to the next bar could simply grab a white bike and ride away. No charges required!
Oh yeah, when a white bike broke, just push it to a designated area where it will be collected, repaired and put back into service, at no charge, thank you.
