Back in the mid seventies after Reagan busted the Unions, I watched experienced mechanics who worked in union shops walk off the job, one started a landscaping business, which he actually knew nothing about. When the money went away, so did the mechanics. When I was a dealership mechanic we had the flat rate, then we had the warranty rate which was a tenth of the flat rate. The mechanics were taking the shaft for poor design and workmanship by the factory. It did not take me long to change career fields, like everyone else, I get out of bed, go to work in order to make a good living. The obvious solution is to make mechanics profitable.
