  1. Even the Catholics have dialled back the use of Latin in their services. It is an exclusive redundant skillset. I do feel like someone could make some kind of business model charging to learn these archic languages. Espiranto, Aramaic, Welsh, Klingon, Elvish (Tolkien) All great fun. For academic bumblers. But there is scant justification for getting tax payers to pay to retain them. Imagine taking taxes off someone who works at Tesco to pay for a rich Toff to learn Latin. That's just not right, is it.

  2. They don't have to remove them. But they should not be subsidised. Institutions who require it could fund it. As far as I can tell, only the Catholic church makes any kind of use of the Latin language. It's not likely to contribute to any key industry.
