  8. What ever Murray said about politics, I didn't hear Harris say anything else that it should be uncontroversial that genetics play a role. - and that he expects not to be strawman'ed. His talk with Murray explicitly didn't say that black people are dumber than white people. It explicitly said that the knowledge about the statistical distribution relative to genetics was of NO USE when speaking of individual persons. It's not that hard... you just have to be honest, instead of this sickening strawmaning.

The link you provided to Reddit just plain out states that He's a "racist" ... it provides NO actual quotes of his words and no context. All it does is to say that: "Harris is racist - specifically, he's an Islamophobe who thinks that we ought to do terrible things to people with brown skin from predominantly Muslim countries, like nuclear bomb them, torture them, and racially profile them." First of all. "islam" is not a race. It's a system of thought - an ideology. In the same way any other religion which has a political component is. (including many versions of Christianity). Secondly... a "phobia" is an irrational fear. It's not irrational to be worried about the consequences of political views based in superstition - whether it be Christian right climate science denial, or muslim fundamentalism. Last ... Sam Harris has NEVER said what that quote claims. It's simply a lie.

Even that is a meaningless statement unless the genes involved in melanin production are explicitly also involved in intelligence, (or that melanin somehow itself interferes, which sound extremely unlikely). But yeah ... the penis-analogy holds. On average, some populations have larger penises than others. That doesn't mean that you can say anything meaningful about a single individual based on his skin color. And... this is probably the only time the names Neil deGrasse Tyson and Ron Jeremy becomes relevant in the same sentence.

It was a general comment on how Sam Harris bashing usually goes ... lot's of manufactured quotes, strawmen and out-of-context nonsense. Including in this video and the comment track. Wrt. your reddit link ... I'm not sure what your claim is. - and given the quotes others made from the page, I really don't care wasting my time looking for it. So unless you can be explicit about it.... and honest. ... I've better things to do.

  20. +Lance Ash When has Sam Harris ever embraced "the soul" ??? First of all... these concepts needs to be defined. I've never heard "the soul" being defined in any Sam Harris discussion. But yeah... he does embrace something he himself calls "spirituality". But he defines it explicitly to not include anything supernatural. That's not very different from people like Dawkins (and my self btw) finding awe an beauty in nature.
