This would have been so much more convincing if you didn't constantly came back to the "basic identity" thing.

... I think it would show more integrity to let it up to Dave Rubin (or anyone) to make their own priorities. If anyone came and told me what my "basic identity" was, I'd ask them to get lost.

First ... I don't like either Rubin or Shapiro (or Michael Brooks for that matter). I find Shapiro a Jerk and Rubin at best naive. However... I don't think this form for critique is useful. Rubin doesn't really use his homosexuality as a guiding principle for anything as far as I can see. He mentions if often, yes, but that's mostly to remind people that he doesn't fit their stereotypes. If you tried to deduce a primary guiding principle for him from his work, it would clearly be something about classical liberalism. (which I btw, also think he's fumbling, but that's a different story).

So what? ... I can't the any merit for the concept of "basic identity" ... and this whole thing about putting people in boxes and telling them what their "identity" is and how they should then behave is utterly silly. Dave Rubin, might be naive, incompetent and greedy (I don't know) ... but he sure is right about one thing: Identity politics is poison.
