Michael Brooks really come of as desperately trying to promote a rather despicable smear agenda.

That's just completely BS. Even Douglas Lain at some point has to remind Michael Brooks that's the generalization is not entirely fair because these people are not the same. I personally find people Jordan Peterson silly, Rubin incredible naive and Shapiro a jerk, but they are no way like Shermer, Harris and Bret Weinstein ... and none of them are "racist" as the smear goes. I dislike the idea of inventing the concept of an "Intellectual dark web" ... The mere naming of it creates a situation where it becomes hard to define its boundaries ... Not everybody agree what is sane intellectual discussion and what is not and there's an obvious risk of people wanting to include characters like Prager and Molyneux. There will always be differences of opinions, but Michael Brooks obviously has an irrational hate for Sam Harris and is very eager to smear him with the worst of these (like Milo) merely for him agreeing that there's a problem with SJW culture.

" I disagree about Peterson, Harris, et al, not being having an element of racism to their schtick. Harris seems to make blanket statements about Muslims, " Sigh... No he doesn't. First of all ... Give me one single example of where he has made blanket statements about muslims. Secondly ... he criticizes "Islam" (or religious dogma in general) and - as you hopefully is aware of: Islam is not a race. Islam is a belief system, as is any religion. Not that much different from an ideology apart from the supernatural element. And we have to be able to criticize bad ideas. Ideologies of any kind, whether religious or not, can't be exempt from criticism. > "Like I mentioned in a previous post, try not to get triggered and emotional because I'm disagreeing with you." Doubling down on silly doesn't help your case.

Hmm... anyone having seen the Dave Rubin Rally in NH would probably recognize that what creates the Barbara Streissand effect here is the silly protesters trying to disrupt an otherwise rather uninteresting event.
1
I'm sure you are.... that'll really add to the level of this discussion. * sigh *
1
"Triggered": adjective ... a word people use when they want to distract from the actual conversation and turn attention to a meta-discussion about the opponents state of mind - whether real or not. A Red Herring.

Apart from recognizing that if you took away the protesters from Rubin recent NH event there was absolutely nothing of interest said there, I don't agree with you about your general description.

First of all ... Bari Weiss didn't invent this thing "Intellectual Dark Web". She only reported on it. The term originates from Eric Weinstein and as I've already said I believe it's a bad idea to name the ongoing discussions and turn it into a "group" .... (and the name it self is silly). However, whether or not these people are mentioned in the same article is NO excuse for smearing them all as one with generalized strawmen. As the article also states (and yes, of course I've ready, silly): "It’s hard to draw boundaries around an amorphous network, especially when each person in it has a different idea of who is beyond the pale." And I believe that problem is larger than Eric Weinstein had imagined. As I mentioned, I think Ben Shapiro is a jerk. ... and if anyone should think of including pure idiots like Dennis Prager, it becomes a farce. So trying to paint this as a "group" and ascribe the same thoughts and motives to all of them is ... well... silly. But I guess that's how identity politics works.

I really don't care about the color of the skin on people. If they have silly ideas, I'll criticize it. It seems the SJW left on the other hand cares very much about skin color.

> "It's pretty obvious dumb Americans, or 'Trump voters', don't hate Islam just because it's a religion" I'd say it's much more obvious that they hate Islam because it's not THEIR religion. - for starters. And that's actually a part of my point. As Christopher Hitchens said: "Religion poisons everything" ... and two of the most poisonous set of religious dogma is the Mike Pence style American fundamentalism and Wahhabism. ... and it can't really come as a surprise that they hate each other.
1
+Lex772 I can't really see what Hitchens opinions about Iraq has to do with the quote I made. Wrt. Harris and Israel ... do you have an (in context) quote with reference?
1
+Django Fett I don't even know what you are talking about.

I realize the Peter Hitchens is Christopher Hitchens (rather obnoxious) brother. And yes... Hitch described himself as Marxist originally... but it was a rather strange form of Marxism. I guess it was mostly to claims he still had the same principles as originally, but in reality he honored the freedom values of the enlightenment and people like Thomas Paine. (which I can subscribe to). Not sure what this has to do with Sam Harris criticizing religious dogma though.

+Lex772 1) I can't see any link in any of your posts. 2) Don't assume anything about the time it takes me to answer. Maybe I have a life apart from answering our posts.

You didn't seem to understand what I just wrote. First: I can't (still) see you link in any of the above posts. It's not in my feed. Secondly: You seem to think people have nothing else to do than answer YT comments and that you can assume that if a few hours go without answer then there's some psychological motive for not answering. I reserve the right to be offline for any amount of time and not thinking about YT and only answer when I get back online and have time. Is that too much to ask for? Finally... Thanks for providing an in-context reference. At least that much I owe you credit for. But... you really have to explain to me what exactly in that video is "zionist" and how. Please provide a quote and a minute:second offset and your reasoning. He's just reflecting about the whole situation. Is there anything factual wrong in what he says?
1
Wow... an impressive demonstration of subjective reasoning. "anyone who knows how Harris plays his rhetorical game can infer from what he doesn't say and what he subtly implies when framing arguments," How is that not just another way of saying: "If you share my prejudice, it's obvious" ? ... and then you just proceed to dismiss anything which goes counter to your argument as Sam "setting up" the ground - implying that you just "know" that he doesn't really mean it. You also totally fail to reflect on the Hamas Charter. Finally ... I've never found it a convincing argument for ignoring what happens today to refer to what happened hundreds of years ago. Sure, Christians have had a history of being even worse towards Jews than contemporary Muslims ... which relevance does that have in todays situation? ... Not much besides historical anecdotes. Also ... if you actually want to look back. These Jews "protected" by muslims in the middle ages were still subjected to oppression which would be unheard of in a modern free society. ... It's simply pure cultural relativism you preach.
1
... actually ... my argument was that it was ALREADY circular reasoning you made.

Comparing to the "bernie bros" issue is just silly. The concept of "bernie bros" was an election smear, trying to discredit a specific candidate person. ... This is in no way the same as what motivates the people behind the "Intellectual Dark Web" (which I btw, find a silly thing for other reasons)
