Comments by "Lelly Parker" (@lellyparker) on "'Defund the police' explained: what it really means for the Black Lives Matter movement" video.
Those slogans were created by racists to detract from the cry for help from racial minorities who actually need it.

The slogan "Defund the Police" is a bit of a gift to detractors who can (and have) easily misrepresent it. The very fact that people have to explain what it means tells me it is a bad slogan that does not convey its message. Maybe find a better slogan? "Rebalance the Police"? Something that is harder to twist.

@daftwod It is not the sentiment because we all agree that all lives do matter. It is the fact that it is being used by racists to attack the "Black Lives Matter" slogan. THAT is what is racist about it. White lives are NOT being racially abused (in the UK) which is why the slogan "White Lives Matter" is irrelevant - nobody is acting like white lives don't matter. But people ARE acting like black lives don't matter so it is necessary to remind people that black lives matter just as much as every other life. But I know trying to explain this to racist like you is a waste of time. You want to attack the anti-racist movement because you like being a racist.

Yes. IMO it does more harm than good. The slogan that is, not the desire to reevaluate community funding.
5
@Joseph Stalin No, you are spouting right wing propaganda. No one is suggesting removing police forces. It is about funding positive community schemes so that you don't need to spend so much money policing - because the CAUSES of crime are removed or greatly reduced.
4
@Dr Carrot "Have you ever listened to a BLM spokesman ?" - Well it is clear that you have not. Here is a video on their official website, in the video they discuss defunding the police by 5% and using that 5% to spend on community reform (housing education and jobs etc...). https://blacklivesmatter.com/what-defunding-the-police-really-means/

@Alfie-ni7lx The word "defund" does not have to mean take away all funds. When I deflate a tire, I don't have to deflate the tire all the way. If you remove funding you do not have to remove ALL the funding. You are deliberately taking it at its most extreme meaning in order to spread misinformation about what they wish to achieve.

We all know the letter B here means "Black". It is also true that WHITE crime will never stop. But at least here you are exposing your racism. Reported.

BLM are not "anti emergency services". In America they are simply calling for a REDUCTION in police funding by 5% and to spend that 5% on local education, jobs, housing and mental health etc... things that are proven to reduce crime. Here is their official video explaining it: https://blacklivesmatter.com/what-defunding-the-police-really-means/

"Stone Mountain State Park officials said the Black militia group was peaceful, orderly and escorted by police as they called for the removal of the country's largest Confederate monument near Atlanta." (They are NOTHING to do with BLM) - https://www.newsweek.com/armed-black-demonstrators-challenge-white-supremacist-militia-georgias-stone-mountain-park-1515494

@Alfie-ni7lx "people like you trying to apologize for what they are saying" - I am not apologizing for what they are saying. I literally said it was a BAD slogan that does NOT convey what they mean. They should change it.
2
@Joseph Stalin You sound like a communist after your namesake.
2
@daftwod "Being anti emergency services should be a deportable offence." - No one is being "anti emergency services". In AMERICA they are talking about removing 5% of funding from the police to spend on education, mental health, housing, jobs etc... Just 5%.
2
@Irishtradchannel "Pity that so many in BLM say the opposite to you" - No they don't. Here is the OFFICIAL BLM website. In the video the lady explains they want to take about 5% (FIVE PERCENT) away from the police in order to invest in education, mental health, housing, jobs etc... THAT is their intention which is why their slogan is badly chosen. Here is their OFFICIAL video: https://blacklivesmatter.com/what-defunding-the-police-really-means/

@daftwod The money should be taken away from where it is not needed. In the US that is the police force because they are OVER funded and communities are UNDER funded. In the UK the situation is different. We need to increase funding to BOTH the police AND the communities.
2
@Alfie-ni7lx It is because in the US many police forces are OVER funded and the idea is to reduce police funding and give that money to community projects aimed at reducing the causes of crime.
2
@Ardy P Nobody said they didn't. But some people refuse to acknowledge that black lives matter which makes them rac-ist.
1
@tomcooney2842 "they refuse to believe that black lives matter unless its at the hands of a white cop" - Stop telling racist lies.
1
@daftwod Their official video make it clear you are lying. They want to take about 5% (FIVE PERCENT) away from the police to spend on community programs PROVEN to reduce crime like housing, education, mental health etc... https://blacklivesmatter.com/what-defunding-the-police-really-means/
