Being reliant on the US for trade is a bad idea IMO. Look at what is happening to Mexico. Trump is dictating Mexico's policies by blackmailing them using massive trade tariffs. At least in the EU we have tariff free trading. No other country in the EU can do what the US is doing to Mexico right now. The US is a bully, lets not give them power over us. https://www.politics.co.uk/comment-analysis/2019/06/03/trump-s-uk-trade-deal-an-abusive-relationship-with-a-now-vul

@janskacel9480 But Trump was asked about the NHS because all the leaders of the Brexit movement think the NHS should be privatized. Farage wants to give the NHS to American Insurance companies. So the press want to know if Trump would be interested in that. Looks like he would.

@Russian Troll so Im told It took us 3 years to secure those. That is very very worrying. Clearly we are not going to make the 40 we need leaving us very very short.

@sleahcim4723 The NHS is not meant to make a profit. BUT if you remove free access to the NHS for everyone and force them to pay £400/month to a private company regardless if they get sick or not then a private company could make a LOT of money through the former NHS. That is the point. They want to scrap the free healthcare funded by taxes and replace it with expensive healthcare paid for by private insurance schemes. That's how it works in the US.

@KLM738XO That's not what Trump said and that is not what a lot of Brexit politicians think either.

Blanca Gil Nieves There is a saying "beggars can't be choosers". By leaving the EU before making new deals we put ourselves in a desperate place and the US knows it and will take advantage of our absolute need to make a deal.

@Russian Troll so Im told Within the EU we trade for free. Under WTO rules we have to pay tariffs. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-41859691 Trading with the rest of the world is turning out not to be as easy as some claimed: https://www.ft.com/content/e93b7abc-ddc7-11e8-8f50-cbae5495d92b Also the WTO members seem to be a little upset with Britain and the EU right now so that will complicate matters further. "The U.S. and China demanded the EU provide a mechanism for "appropriate compensation" to ensure its split with the U.K. doesn’t leave them worse off after Brexit" https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-11-12/u-s-china-10-other-countries-seek-brexit-assurances-at-wto via @markets

@Russian Troll so Im told Brussels doesn't dictate anything to us. We are a large part of Brussels and what gets decided there is in large part decided by us in cooperation with the countries of Europe. We have about 30% influence there. With the US we will have about 0% of the power. Also the EU aims for high standards of food quality, basic minimum wages, workers rights, equality, environmental protection etc.... all the things that the US is against because they are too expensive for large businesses.

@Torqumedia More than 60% of our trade is within the EU so it is not possible that we are more reliant on the US than the EU. However my point is we should be aiming for LESS trade with the US and MORE trade withing the EU, not the other way round. https://fullfact.org/europe/does-most-uk-trade-happen-outside-eu-and-trade-agreements/

@Russian Troll so Im told No. False. First we don't export anything to the EU itself but to EU countries (free of charge) at 44%. But you are forgetting an additional 20% we export to other countries BASED ON EU TRADING TERMS. We can not continue those after Brexit. We must negotiate new terms or pay tariffs on it. So about 60+% of our exports go to EU countries or to countries through a EU trading deal. ALL of which will change after Brexit. Our economy has already SHRUNK between 1.5-2.5% and we have not even left yet. And why do you think anything from the US boost will come to us? The only reason the US is looking good now is because it gave major tax cuts to the filthy rich. It deregulated big businesses so that they can trash the environment (which make their business cheaper). It is also being ruthless in its trade dealings with other countries (like Mexico). You know Trumps slogan right? "AMERICA FIRST". If we make a deal with the US, it will get even richer because we will get poorer. We will help pay for the next economy boost for the US.
