Comments by "Lelly Parker" (@lellyparker) on "EU planning tougher Covid vaccine export controls" video.
Hardly anything you wrote is true. We did this to ourselves. Brexit was amazingly stupid and the only way the government can hide the disaster Brexit has caused is by blaming the EU for everything with lies and propaganda. We told you Brexit would be a disaster. It is not the EU harming the UK, it is Brexit harming the UK. You have been reading too many Tory papers.

@Donald Wilson I agree. It is a mess. But I suspect the UK government have gotten their hands very dirty in all this from the very beginning. The whole situation stinks and I strongly suspect UK government manipulation to pull one over on the EU. But without proof what can anyone do? The EU must feel like they're dealing with terrorists in the current UK government.

@lenocman2 The EU have exported millions of vaccines to the UK, but the UK has not exported ANY vaccines to the EU (or anywhere else). So the EU are just trying to do what the UK has been doing all along - protecting their citizens.

@Jo Sm The legal regimes in the EU and UK are different. There is no such thing as a legal obligation to supply the UK before the EU. If the vaccines were manufactured in the EU then EU law applies and UK law is irrelevant. If there is a contractual obligation to deliver to the EU, then AZ have no right to expect to be allowed to export those vaccines to a 3rd country like the UK. It is that simple. The UK are hypocrites for complaining because the EU have supplied 45 million doses of vaccines to other countries and the UK has done nothing for anyone other than themselves. Now I am not blaming the UK for that, the same way I am not blaming the EU for wanting to do the same thing.

@Jo Sm "Read senior MEP Guy Verhofstadt's assessment of the two contracts? He's a senior EU minister. He totally disagrees with you." - I have read it. He does not disagree with anything I said. All he talks about is why AZ are more incentivized to deliver to the UK rather than the EU because of the contracts. That doesn't change the fact that BOTH contracts are legally binding in their respective countries and so AZ continues to have an obligation to deliver to the EU. Moreover, the EU based companies are under EU law and so if the EU passes an export ban into law to ensure its contracts are met, then EU based AZ will legally have to comply. UK law is irrelevant. UK contracts are irrelevant.

@dogblackprincehoney "EU bargained for AstraZeneka 3 euro while poor Tailand 5 euro per dose" - Are you blaming AstraZenica for charging Tailand too much? I don't get the point you are making.

@dogblackprincehoney "How can you say UK has done nothing?" - I never said the UK did nothing. I said the UK has not exported a single vaccine to another country while the EU has sent over 45,000,000 vaccines all over the world. That's just facts.

Britain made it difficult for ex-pats. Given that most ex-pats voted for Brexit, they made it difficult for themselves.
