Any new battery tech doesn't have to be 100% safe. It just has to be as safe or safer than a plastic tub full of flammable hydrocarbons.

Didn't realize you live in MA too. Greetings from Chelmsford! <3

Just for comparison, does anyone know ballpark costs per megawatt-hour from conventional power stations in the same markets?

@tidal-oceancurrents7552 I was thinking each in turn. And again, same markets to eliminate as many variables as possible. :)

06:00 - Just FYI, your figures on non-nuclear submarine endurance are waaay out of date, Matt. With modern batteries and especially Air-Independent Propulsion systems (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2QS_aEsVuw), SSKs and the like have frankly incredible endurance. They're still not even remotely close to SSNs in terms of fuel life, though, so the actual point you were making isn't affected. Covert Shores (the channel I linked) and the channel Sub Brief are both great resources to learn more about submarines generally. :)

I feel incredibly dirty after listening to all of these puns.

For the last. Bloody. Time. The hydrogen did not start the Hindenburg fire. The doping compound used to weatherproof the canvas was ROCKET FUEL. The ignition came when at least one (more likely several) panels didn't ground properly and their charge jumped to others, igniting the doping compound. The hydrogen burned, sure, but it did not cause the fire. To be clear, not advocating the use of H2 in airships at all when He is available. I'm just sick of the inaccuracy of the popular narrative.

With the imminent collapse of the global supply web (over the next decade or so), locations of source materials for different techs is also a critical factor in assessing which ones are best.

If this pans out, it will be huge.

I still consider touch-screens generally a bad idea. I'm looking forward to holo-haptic interfaces. :)

@arch1107 It may be because of my large fingers or my being accustomed to high precision in my computer controls, but I can't stand touchscreens. As far as haptic, I was actually referring to a (currently) sci-fi concept where you either wear special gloves or have tiny implants in your fingertips. These allow a holofield to see where your fingers are and allow you to interact with a holographic projection as if it was real. Tiny bits of haptic feedback from the gloves/implants would assist with making the GUI elements in the projection feel "real." This idea was most prominently seen in the "Mass Effect" universe, but I've heard it kicked around several places. Way outside current tech capabilities, but that's my ideal future.
