Your analysis does not account for the fact that evangelical Christians, Mormons, and Orthodox Jews in the same socioeconomic surrounding have children over replacement rate, and others do not. His ideological/philosophical analysis tracks more accurately with truth on the ground than your economic one. It does matter whether or not you buy into the hedonist, consumerist, scientistic paradigm after all.

"They're not trying" That assumption is more than we need to shuffle them aside as cultural arbiters. The degree of maliciousness will vary from individual to individual and is hard to prove across the board. It is sufficient that by their own metrics they don't have an answer. (And that they created the problem whether they would or no.)

@ivilivo "If they don't like it, then it's worth the cost." As a reply to the thread opener, that doesn't make sense. "They're not trying to solve the demographic crisis..." means the demographic crisis IS what they like. How is giving them what they want an act of defiance?

@gmw3083 Apathy is inherently impotent. The lazy and cowardly aren't going to SHAME people of goodwill into giving up, because apathy, sloth and cowardice are not virtues. You have nothing practical to add to the conversation.

@gmw3083 Good people act in a crisis. Sometimes they win. Sometimes they lose. You haven't addressed the moral point.

There is a hole in the analysis. The managerial class per se may not embrace violence, but they are allied with hard core ideological leftists, who DO.

How? He's not describing free markets.

@johnclark2212 "Capitalism" is Marx's ideological caricature of free markets. "Capitalism" is the MARXIST DOGMA that free markets favor "capital" over "labor".

@ChrisF-jt1qf "Why would they ever comeback?" The Ukrainian resource base is fertile grain producing land. After the war this WILL NOT lie fallow, and it takes farmers to farm. They will come back because exploitable resource opportunities are ALWAYS filled, especially proven ones. Artillery can knock down buildings, but it can't destroy farmland on any scale. If the economic base of Ukraine were industry, knocking the factories and power plants flat brings you back to square one. Not so with agriculture. "Son, acquire land. There's always a demand, and they aren't making it anymore."

The folly of trying to solve a problem without understanding it. We're not going to muster a quorum for practical reform unless people are made to understand. What else do you expect to get from electronic media than information? It doesn't dispense food or money or work.
