  1. They don't need to until they are ready to do an air strike in the Russian rear. Probing air defenses before you're ready to engage does no good (except with fixed defenses). The enemy just moves them.

  3.  @AnyoneForToast  I heard a few of my fellow students in a central Indiana grade school doing that in 1967. I haven't heard it in person since. I sometimes hear it on video.

  5. "didnt you say Ukraine was about to defeat Russia a year ago?" Nobody was saying that a year ago. The Russians hadn't even retreated from Karkiv yet. "What happened?" The Russians got pushed back all summer, Putin did his first mobilization and retreated from Karkiv in September. Just before winter Putin ordered his second mobilization, with widespread conscription, and major offensive operations were hindered for both sides by the winter. That is about to change.
