If the replacement happens to name somebody more acceptable yet.. lather, rinse, repeat. This is the same engineered vulnerability as making the Speaker of House third in succession, whereas before it went to the Secretary of State. It provides a limited opportunistic chance for an "appeal from ballots to bullets".
