It is not known what the relative industrial capability of the Axis vs (for your example) US would have been after a few more years of consolidation of Europe and US being cut off from European trade. The Axis plan was for world conquest, an ambitious plan, to be sure, but the best way to counter it was total war, merely laughing at it would have lost the war, ultimately globally.
