  1.  @Ar-vl8mm  Do you think Russia is the only country that can make control systems? That's just electronics, the EASY part of aerospace tech, and the Russians are not particularly good at it. They couldn't immediately use the nukes, but, OF COURSE, they could EVENTUALLY, if they had to dismantle and replace the electronics. The Russian's negotiated the deal because they didn't want Ukraine to have the missiles, because the Russian leaders at the time had no illusions about the ill will Russia had been earning with Ukraine for decades. Then, like Darth Vader, they "changed the deal".

  3.  @GrimSower  "don't really have a choice" 96% with guns in their hands would have all the choice in the world, of course. It's hard to force even an unarmed majority to do something against their will. There IS NO WAY TO FORCE AN ARMED MAJORITY TO FIGHT AGAINST THEIR WILL.

  4. Russia has oppressed Ukraine throughout the Soviet era. The West didn't make the Ukrainians hate Russians. Russians did that. Soviet and modern Russian propaganda may have papered over the truth for Russians, but the truth remains. The reason why the only place the SS was able to recruit and arm locals en masse out of all their conquests was not because Ukrainians were uniquely evil, but because Russian governments had profoundly and thoroughly earned Ukrainian enmity. I hear Russians want to embrace the Ukrainians as brothers. They are going to have to EARN that goodwill, and after 70+ years of oppression, that's not going to happen overnight. It will take decades of decent, respectful treatment. The way Russia is going about it isn't going to work.

Nobody outside Ukraine is forcing Ukrainians to fight. Nobody is forcing YOU to fight. Who is this "they" you're talking about?
