@Marley "The fact that Russia thinks it can attack Ukraine but can't be attacked in return..." @sillysad3198 "remember The God Chosen people?" Excellent point. So many think that the Israelis aren't entitled to shoot back when Hezbollah and PLO bombard their civilians with mortars and rockets. Or did I misunderstand you? ;-)

They need to cashier General Ineptitude.

@Para_Ninja If surrender is what the Taiwanese wanted, they had a chance to vote for it in the last election, and they voted the other way. If anybody thought that was viable Hong Kong changed their mind. Nobody really knows what they themselves will do in an emergency, but historical precedent and recent development suggest enough will fight.

Remember, the UK funds a world class navy and a nuclear deterrent and has a regional power projection capability that Poland does not in accordance with UK's geography, defense needs, and NATO role. Poland has a geographic (and historical) reason to concentrate on land forces and CAS. Also the UK's immigration policy has been a drain on the national economy, the police force, and the Crown budget, and a number of other policy related drains; whereas Poland has its immigration situation much more sorted.

@噬玩割基 The US doesn't control the economies of those places. If central control of the economies is so great, they should be thriving. There are plenty of places that trade with them.

@WarPigstheHun "I blame general MacArthur" Blame him for what consequence? Nothing he advocated had any effect on policy, so what are you blaming him FOR?
1
@Taskandpurpose You referred to troops advancing in unarmored and civilian vehicles as "mechanized" infantry. I believe the correct term for such a formation is "motorized" infantry. The term mechanized infantry is reserved for infantry which moves in, and can mount and transport on armored vehicles, such as APCs, or sometimes in WW2, halftracks. Both sides in WW2 used both kinds of formations, as well as light infantry formations without integrated transport.

@Panocek "Ammunition is always cheaper than the target." Yes, but that's not a dispensation, it's a design specification.

"Let's be careful what we ask for..." Watched the video and read the comment section. Didn't hear or read anybody asking for war. "peace at all costs" Fortunately, most people would rather fight than live in North Korea or the equivalent. Those that wouldn't don't understand the question. Whenever this entry level resolve fails the human race you will have "a hobnailed boot on a human face". Only a fool thinks that nothing is worse than war. You say "You don't understand war." I say "You don't understand totalitarianism." You don't sign a blank check and hand it to somebody you know is untrustworthy. What peace and freedom this world affords is, humanly speaking, preserved by somebody willing to pay a price to hold a line. Disrespect them if you like, they sacrifice to preserve your right to do so, but don't think you are their superior in morality or wisdom. How do you come to think that your father would at the eleventh hour throw away all he fought to preserve?
1
Why? Do you think that when you hit or shell an H-bomb, it "cooks off" like a chemical explosive and results in a fusion or fission bomb energy release event? (spoiler alert: It doesn't.) The result of such a strike would be Russia has one less nuke. A bystander might be hit by the shrapnel propelled by the drone's warhead.

Decimal point slip.

Since when does conducting joint exercises with an ally have anything to do with annexing the ally? Since when is defending an ally not "defense"? Complain when we conduct the exercises in North Korea.

@ adjective Having little or no detrimental effect; harmless. "a benign chemical; benign indifference." Of no danger to health; not malignant or disease-causing. "a benign tumor." Tending to exert a beneficial influence; favorable. "a policy with benign consequences for the economy." (American Heritage Dictionary) Keeping South Korea distinct from North Korea is beneficial, particularly for the Koreans. Now why did you ask me to do that?
1
@ What? The environment? Do you thing an invasion by North Korea would be environmentally benign?
1
@ That is the diametric opposite of the truth. A show of strength is the ONLY way to deter NK aggression.

Yea, it's a desert tank. I imagine it's track loading would not play well with winter mud and snow. A fair weather tank under Eastern European conditions.

By 1850, common military long guns, though in some cases still called muskets, and still muzzle loaders, were in fact muzzle loading RIFLES firing minie ball ammo, so they could match or exceed the old smoothbore rate of fire, only with accuracy. They WEREN'T smooth bores.

I liked the 20th century types in Steel Panthers III, used the hell out of the "carries infantry" feature.
1
You still need mobility in warfare. Subtract tanks and you've got WW1. Drones are a gimmick waiting for a cheap counter. Some low-caliber point defense pod like a phalanx scaled down to fire .22 WMR, or even a laser. Drones will be around for a while, especially for recon, because they can be cheap, but the current state of drone isn't going to make the tank obsolete.

Is relating history anathema to you? I must have missed the part where he advocated a policy.
1
@delpoxi2958 It seems to me that the judicial reform isn't stupid. If you have a sovereign branch of government appointing its own successors with no input from the electorate you don't have a democracy. Sometimes leftists are fine with that as long as the dictators in funny suits are doing what they want but that sort of thing never ends ends well.
1
First, you would if you had a land border with NK, and they hadn't signed a peace treaty. Second, yes UK, Canada, and Mexico have military drills.
1
@ "Then" in this context should mean "consequently". As a consequence to what? Insert argument here. Repeating your assertion is not an argument.
1
@Roonasaur "birds aren't real." If you're not going to eat that chicken, I will.
