If you think this is some sort of US "plot", all Putin had to do to thwart it was NOT INVADE. He has made it clear that he intends to reestablish the Soviet empire, that means all of Eastern Europe to part of Germany. Putin has already revealed his plans in the open. To pretend to fall for the "cover story" after the reveal is doublethink. Gaslight yourself, if you must, but don't expect anybody else to fall for it.
