  2. No, a Franklin stove with an air intake flue will keep you comfortable (with more work, granted) in a Northern US winter. Basically, mankind had cold on the ropes when they domesticated fire, and fairly licked when they developed sound houses and Franklin stoves. Heat kept killing us in our homes (and many of the living wishing they were dead) until air conditioning. I wouldn't hesitate to spend a night in an Amish home in midwinter. I wouldn't consider doing so in midsummer.

  4. Folks, 100 degrees F without AC all day is no joke. That is hardship. Your ancestors would punch you in the face if they heard you say that.
