  1.  @perrybb2  "New England states are the only region where rural areas are blue" That is not true at all. If you color the Democrat represented congressional districts (smaller, denser populated districts) blue, and the Republican represented districts red you will find small islands of blue cities surrounded by an ocean of red. This is the case nationwide. Illinois is reputed as a "blue state", but if you excise the Chicago area, it's red. The original poster is quite correct.
