  1. Yes modern missile warning gear can track missiles from any aspect (of the missile) by IR and know from how it maneuvers whether it is homing on the aircraft. Also, especially when it is dark like this, the pilot or the other crewman can clearly see a missile launch, when they have visual on the attacker.

That would have been totally superfluous, for one thing. Johnson and MacNamara's "graduated pressure" wasn't. For another, how did he have influence with the NV when he WASN'T president, but they walked out on the peace talks when he WAS? This is absurd as the notion that Reagan talked the Iranians out of a hostage release until after his election. Nixon got a peace agreement in less time than Johnson failed to get one. Then a Democrat congress pulled defeat from the jaws of victory by failing to fund our treaty obligations.

We tried to help them, got the Soviet puppet NVs to sign a peace treaty, but the Democrats refused to fund our part of the treaty, so Vietnam was invaded with more tanks and aircraft than we deployed on D-Day in WW2. "Asked for help after WW2" You think we should have gone to war with France?
