  2. The problem with ethanol as fuel is that you have to mix it with gasoline to make it compatible with installed hardware. You have to get ethanol 99% pure to mix it with gasoline, which doesn't mix with water. But 90% ethanol 10% water burns just fine, if you design the engine to burn it. 99% ethanol takes ten times as much energy and is ten times more expensive per unit volume than 90/10.
