@clutteredchicagogarage2720 You missed a lot of important facts about history of Crimea.
1. Crimea became Russian territory after Russian-Turkish war in 1774. Ukraine did not existed at this time at all.
2. From 1918 to 1954 Crimean Oblast was part of RSFSR (aka Russian Federation), and was internally moved to Ukrainian SSR without asking of people who lived there.
3. After collapse of USSR, in 1991, there was referendum in Crimea for creating Autonomus Republic (93% voted in favour).
4. In 1994 another referendum took place in Crimea, where majority voted for more autonomy, more power to President of Crimea and for dual citizenship (Russian and Ukrainian). Ukrainian Parlament declined this, removed position of President of Crimea and reduced autonomus rights for Crimean Republic.
5. In all Ukrainian Parlamental and Presidential elections, majority of Crimeans always voted for candidates and parties, who promised closer relations with Russia and supported status of Russian language.
6. in 2014 majority of Crimeans voted on Referendum for secceding from Ukraine and joining Russia.
7. Crimea joined Russia as autonomus republic with 3 official languages (Russian, Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar)
8. by all possible social polls from 2014 until today, majority of people in Crimea are still in favour of joining Russia.
Democracy is when people's opinions are taken into account, and not what authorities in Kiev or Washington says.
