  1. A good example of how our economy is a double economy; the military is a command economy that operates independently inside a national market economy. In the former, entire divisions of workers are laid off and production stops on command. In the latter economy, workers are laid off and production stops when there is no profit in it. In either case, individuals are not in control over their working lives. Everything hangs on how well wars are going and how much can be sold.
