Battles like Washington’s were the way city-states become major cities and capitols to nations that the history and tactics of generals of the wars of Antiquity first began with the capturing of city-states...followed by the growth of that city-state ultimately becoming major cities like Boston or NY and Philadelphia...opening a new frontier. Looking at Washington’s war strategy... the Delaware River is a British supply line from the Cheasepeake to Trenton. Washington’s first takes Trenton by surprise attack than with fortification takes Princeton and Morristown, small cities dependent on local farming and slavery. One rural county seat after another.
