Interesting,---the Office of the Teuctli parallels with the Office of the President of the US as both are two roles in one office, i.e., Chief Administrator of the nation’s resources and a Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces. If the armed forces are the resources of a tribe or nation then the two roles are really one, a dictatorship. But if the resources are more abundant of useful material than the military is useful then the roles are distinct from each other and it would be more democratically decided who takes the office.
The steps the candidate(s) take also parallels the modern political process, could there have been more than one nominated for the office to undergo the grueling four step process, the one who finishes is the Teuctli.
Could the modern pierced septum be the nomination process by an electorate, that each party, tribe or family would choose their candidates? The public humiliation be the campaign process where the Teuctli gets vetted by the public, must be judge and executioner, show compassion and be tested, solve daily problems.
All but Temple Service is nearly the same political structure of the American form of government, the Teuctli is the Executive Office is not supposed to mix Synagogue and Church teachings into matters of state but they do informally. Nepotism is informally and formally a practice in our system that we have no way of telling was absent in Tlaxacalan. The Inauguration is the lavish fiest. Am I alone in seeing these parallels?
