I beg your indulgence but I must intercede on a very important and ethical point wth respect to the uniformity making all places indistinguishably the same and your career a part of that uniformity of culture I see in America as the cause of its descent into barbarism and fascism. Careers were made possible by the car and the car is what destroyed Cairo. Roads and bridges are antithetical structures for multi-generational family structures. Also they are the most ineffective form of energy consumption and are the least effective use of land.
The result of this ineffective use of land and energy the single family homes came into being to resolve this incompatibility between environment and human habitation, at the expense of Cairo’s former history and glory. This paved the way for banks to dominate the economy. The city of Cairo like many American towns that are today ghost towns were all destroyed by the internal combustion engine, roads, bridges and dams. Zoning laws and land use were changed to accommodate the car and the population lost their occupations and careers to become consumers of credit.
Suffice it to say that all careers and occupations required to make the car the single mode of transportation in society are careers and occupations made by the auto industry not by the will of individuals. The absence of free will among individuals in society is the presence of totalitarianism subordinating individuals in society, i.e., conformity. This is why there aren’t Frank Lloyd Wrights in America. Architects design commercial habitats designed for a commercial interest conform to the mold. The worst case scenario of this crisis is the building projects of Intel corporation who will leave behind a monolithic useless structure when the ground water it purifies as raw material for the production of its microchips usurps all the water below ground and the entire city surrounding Intel Corporation dies as a result. Coca-Cola is another culprit. Real shame, I think. I could not be an architect for this reason nor could I be a soldier for the same reason, or a cop, or a realtor, or a mayor, or a governor knowing that my work had something to do with the destruction of the lives, livelihood, environment and occupations of human beings.
