Early educational curriculums in American history classes never incorporated labor history and in particular the 1886 Haymarket Riots that gave birth to international Worker’s Day. So every one in the US is pretty much ignorant of their own history and if they have ancestors in that event carry sore wounds to this day. There was a labor action at Haymarket Square in Chicago for an 8 hour day and a bomb went off ended in a massacre of 7 cops, 4 civilians, dozens wounded. The 8 hour day was made legal. But Congress moved to make a holiday sales event day as a booster shot in the arm for the close of the year’s annual output ending with Christmas sales and called it Labor Day to end summer with. A day workers eat more processed meat, continue to pay their rent, mortgage, car payment, while landlords, banks and dealers take a holiday, its a day of contrivance and mediocrity, apathy and sloth, a day for more eugenically modified foods, a day to end up stranded in a spontaneous American Gulag in a Nevada desert for four days, a day for a mass shooting, another homeless night in Lahaina, and it could be the day Mitch McConnell has one too many seizures and he goes on life support,...at all events...its another day off from school for kids after missing three years of education coming out of a pandemic lock downs, but it is a day to buy more pencils...Labor Day.
