@zepp3lin , Power plants are around 50% efficient while the internal combustion engine in your car varies between 10% and 30% efficient. That’s why EVs cost 1/3rd to 1/4th per mile to operate.

@deplorablelibertarian , They simply did it wrong. That’s why it sucks. This start stop feature only belongs in a vehicle with an electric motor in addition to the gasoline engine if the electric motor has sufficient power to drive the vehicle with the gasoline powered engine.

@316matrixify , Not magic is correct. They just take pride in manufacturing quality products. American companies have no problem with manufacturing junk. It’s a decision. American companies could build quality products, but they choose not to.
5
@TheComp_Troller , Yup. Toyota do cost more. But that’s not because of the cost. It’s because people are willing to pay more for quality. Toyota has spent years building their reputation. US audio manufacturers don’t care about their reputation. The only reason US car companies are still in business is because many Americans are more concerned about the price than the quality of what they buy.

@shag139 , You’re dumb if you don’t charge at home. Why would you go to a charge at a charging station and wait when you can charge at home and sleep?
4
@316matrixify , They’re not likely to break when Toyota makes them. They’re only likely to break when GM, Chrysler, or Ford makes them.
4
@316matrixify , Toyotas do in fact break. They just do so significantly less often than most other cars. Especially less often than American cars. It’s unfortunate that American car companies don’t believe in quality. It’s led to them needing to be bailed out by the government several times.

@shag139 , If you go on a long trip every once in a while, using a charging station is fine. But all the time, no way.
3
@edbaczewski2959 , Toyota tends to do things correctly. Ford, GM, and Chrysler don’t give a chit.
3
@universalassociates6857 , Prius should make the accessories like the air conditioner run off a small electric motor so they can run without the engine running.
3
@universalassociates6857 , Actually, isn’t there a model of the Prius with a solar panel on the roof that runs an air conditioner whenever it’s sunny? I believe I heard that before. How does that work?
3
@Anthony-pi6pf , So your friends buy cheap piece of chit cars with chitty air conditioning? Both BMW and Honda make cheap chitty cars, and good ones. The good ones cost more.
2
@Ezrabastian , Cars are getting cheaper. 100 years ago only extremely rich people could afford a car. Now nearly everyone can afford a car. You’re obviously confused. Everything has been getting cheaper for years.
2
@Victorflange , I don’t believe these cars have a clutch. They probably start the instant you release the brake pedal, so it’s ready to go as soon as you touch the gas pedal.
2
@Brian-dh2zz , My Lexus with 285,000 miles has a V8 with variable valve timing. It has 290 hp and gets around 30 mpg on the freeway. I’ve replaced the alternator, and brake pads. I have a 1977 Chevy C-20 has around 150,000 miles on it, has a V8 and around 90 hp. The engine is way less complicated than my Lexus, but it’s an unreliable piece of junk with incredibly chitty gas mileage. Around 10 mpg on the freeway. Simpler isn’t always better.

He could have saved $1500 by buying a new sheet metal piece from a junkyard.

Are there hybrid battery upgrades? Like from NiMH to LiPo or LiFe for greater capacity/longevity?
1
@Anthony-pi6pf , You probably bought a cheap crappy car. If you bought a luxury car, the air conditioners have significantly more capacity.
1
@F_JoeBiden-tu6cl , Why do you support terrorists?
1
@Anthony-pi6pf , What assumptions? That back in the old days only rich people could afford a car, and now everyone can? That cheap cars re crappy compared to luxury cars? That US cars are garbage because US auto companies don’t want to manufacture a quality product? Tell my which “assumptions” I’ve made.
1
@Ezrabastian , Toyotas are great vehicles. Too bad American companies don’t want to build quality vehicles like Japan.
1
@DesertDog8989 , Yeah. The United States has bailed out GM and Chrysler several times.
1
@Brian-dh2zz , Toyota somehow manages to make things last forever while GM, Ford and Chrysler seem to make garbage that fails often. Which do you believe impacts the environment more? My Lexus currently has 285,000 miles on it and I’ve replaced the battery, brake pads, and the alternator.

@franklofarojr.2969 , Apartments can install charge ports. This isn’t rocket science.
1
@franklofarojr.2969 , So because horse farts are methane, you believe we humans should also contribute additional greenhouse gas?
