Why did Ukraine let the Russians escape across the river?

@Pho-King Soup, If they are allowed to escape, they’ll end up fighting someplace else where it will be more difficult to cut off their supplies.

@Pho-King Soup, Do you really believe that the Russians can fight without supplies? Ukraine has had their supply routes cut off for over 3 months now. The Russians on the right bank of the river are almost completely out of ammo. If Ukraine were just a little closer to the river they could completely cut off all traffic in both directions across the river and the Russians would have no choice but to surrender, or fight with sticks and stones.

@Pho-King Soup, Ukraine had been blocking the river crossings for several months while antagonizing them the entire time forcing them to deplete their limited supplies. The Russians obviously left because they were running out. So basically it’s obvious that you are wrong. They absolutely were running out of ammo, and that’s precisely why they retreated across the river. All Ukraine had to do is prevent them from crossing the river and they would have captured 25,000 to 30,000 Russians. Ukraine’s primary objective is to defeat Russia.

@Pho-King Soup, “Ukraine is winning battles because they have technological superiority and better tactics.” This is true, but Kherson was a unique opportunity to easily eliminate 25,000 to 30,000 of Russias best troops. All they had to so is keep blocking the river crossings and wait. It might have taken another month or two, but they would have surrendered. Ukraine probably let them escape because they didn’t want to kill the “civilians” that Russia was evacuating. The problem is that Russia was not evacuating civilians, nor were they reinforcing the area. They were sneaking out their best soldiers and replacing them with new recruits because they know that in few months they would suffer massive losses. They avoided that, which for them was the best move they had available to them.
