@major__kong , Well, Russian ships are useless in this war. US ships probably would be extremely useful.

But Russia can’t manufacture ball bearings, microchips, and many other components. Russia will never be able to replace that AWACS that Ukraine shot down.

@bjrnalmestad4563 , If they let Russia defeat Ukraine, they will be.

@major__kong , Ships are useless in this war.

@a5cent , Actually, the EU does have a mutual defense component. I just don’t know the details.
3
@a5cent , No EU member has been attacked or invaded, so the defensive component of EU membership hasn’t been triggered. If Ukraine becomes an EU member, that’s nearly equivalent to being a NATO member. However, I don’t know what happens if an EU member that’s not a NATO member is attacked, so all of the EU comes to that member’s defense. Then this results in an EU member being attacked. Would this then trigger article 5?

@a5cent , So basically NATO is lame. What about the EU? Doesn’t the EU also have a defense agreement between members?
2
@a5cent , What this all about? “The Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) is the European Union's (EU) course of action in the fields of defence and crisis management, and a main component of the EU's Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP).”
2
@a5cent , What’s the last word in the following quote? “course of action in the fields of defence”
2
@a5cent , What does the following mean? “The CSDP also entails collective self-defence amongst member states”
2
@a5cent , What’s the “EDU”? “and sometimes referred to as the European Defence Union (EDU)”
2
@a5cent , I’m pretty sure you know how you use the Internet, so you can find this stuff yourself if you want to.
2
@major__kong , Ukraine doesn’t need any ships, and ships are useless for Russia, because Ukraine keeps sinking them.
1
@major__kong , Ukraine doesn’t need ships, and ships have proven to be useless for Russia.
1
@a5cent , Good comment. What would happen if Russia attacked a NATO member? Is there a mechanism that requires everyone to pitch in then?
1
@major__kong , Ships have proven to be useless in this war. Russia is hiding theirs as far from Ukraine as they can.
1
@a5cent , Look up Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP). “The Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) is the European Union's (EU) course of action in the fields of defence and crisis management, and a main component of the EU's Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP).”

@a5cent , But in the event that an EU member is invaded or attacked, the other EU members are obligated to help. Aren’t they?
1
@a5cent , What are the consequences if a NATO member refuses to help a fellow NATO member who’s been attacked?
