  1. You’re wrong. Russia is not trying to weaken the northern border, nor are they planning to open an offensive in the north. They are bombing across the border to give the impression that they might invade there so that Ukraine has to increase their presence in the north just in case. This weakens the east. So Russia is bombing the north to weaken the east. They are forcing Ukraine to defend their entire border.

  2. There’s really nothing Ukraine can do about it other than defend their entire border. If they don’t, then Russia will invade in the north. Ukraine is doing the same thing to Russia in the south. They continue to attempt to recover territory in the south to force Russia to defend the south. If Russia fails to defend the south, Russia will lose territory.
