So you’re right. The vaccinated are getting sick. In fact, the vaccinated make up the majority of those hospitalized in Alberta. But, if you do the math using these numbers you come up with the fact that the vaccines are 78.7% effective at reducing your chances of ending up hospitalized. This calculation assumes that none of the 17% have been previously infected. If any of the 17% has been previously infected, then the math says that the vaccines are more effective than 78.7%. It’s extremely likely that the vaccines are more than 78.7% effective because it’s extremely likely that some of that 17% has been previously infected by the virus. Many of them might not even look they were previously infected since around 50% may have been asymptomatic.
