Trouble is most food is fast food full of calories and crap, and its cheap, some people are lucky they're thin - ( cough andrew ) but many especially with age pile on the flab, its a statistic that most of us put on around 3 to 7lbs ( 1 and ahalf kilos to 3 and a half.. I think I'm old im pre decimal.. Prehistoric my kids sometimes say ( the ones lve cut out of my will.. but they dont know it heh ) l and many of my mates all stuck on weight over the years it hapoens with contentment mostly, but were 3 to 6 stones over our ideal weight, but a few others have surpassed that l have a best mate 27 stones and rising, hes been told to lose wdight so he can have an operation but he is alway busy doing something and is incredibly happy with his life, whereas l used to be really fit and strong until about 15 years ago, l went downhill fast, at 42 l had the blood pressure and beart rate of a 21 year old olympian athlete my doctor told me, but because of a hip injury l had to slow down and got lazier n fatter, ive now had a new hip replacement and intend to do something about it but it will mostly have to be dietry as im not allowed to over stress the new hip, they tell you you can do all sorts s before you have the op but once youve had it, its dont lift more than 30lb in weight ( l used to bench press 300lb) dont run or jog as it will wear out the hip faster and dont overstretch the leg as the hip joint will come out, annoying but better than the pain l was in. Now im on amolidipine, ramipiril, statins, and other crap, never used to take a paracetamol at one time. Age is a beeeaitch. Im 66

I suppose its hard to feel ordinary again after once being a rising star especially on the bbc he had been on tv and had his own show on radio 4, well a couple of shows, one a sit com There Is No Escape, with no less than Diane, Morgan ( Philomena Cunk ), and Marek Larwood, that was only in 2015, he also had a show with short sketches about the monologue he performed everytime, he even sang in it !!! I used to like it, l thought his mysanthrope act was just that an act but again he was just another celebrity with hidden festering boils that needed lancing. It's a shame life twisted on him in such a fashion. They say l may not agree with what you say but l will defend your right to say it, well that only applies to senible factual argument, not rambling accusatory naked racism & bigotry, plus pandering to the worst in society just to try and stay relevent or just be noticed and listened too, at any cost. In my opinion. I'm no saint myself and no fn of multiculturalism and especially not of the tories, and often feel at times that I've slipped into another dimensional version of earth one thats quite a bit askew to the one l left in sy 1980, expectations, people in general, morals, countries all took a twisted turn widdershins, common sense certainly left the building of life. That or l need to adapt to being pointless.

  5. ​ @jackwatsonepic626  l live near where you're from in Redcar and Cleveland district, l was in the army in the 70s and lads were in with me from leeds manchester, brum and wolverhampton as well as carlisle, they were formally asian and jamaican and african some of em their parents had come here in the 50s they classed themselves as English and British., which is right if they were born here tho if tgey had just moved her to live been born in their respective countrys then as you said they could call themselves Jamacain Indian etc, but these lads had their towns accents and were as proud of being British as l was, their grandkids are here now and they would say they were definitely British, abd fair play to em.

Now grunts and other gutteral sounds began to become familiar to me the sound of David, David, David was continuously aimed at my and l would be lifted up to the blobular shape demanding my time. Two years ago l developed rapidly developing cataracts on my eyes at age 64, l was having to change my prescription lenses every 4 weeks, the optician diagnosed it said they have to be dealt with quickly 5 weeks later l was seen as an nhs patient in a private clinic , they removed the cataract on one eye first and a super bonus implanted a contact lense inside my eye, so l could now see long distance something ld not done without glasses since l was 18 they did the other eye 6 weeks after that takes about 8 minutes , then last year l was dignosed with a rapidly crumbling hip and in 4 weeks of diagnosis l had the operation in may 2023,im now walking like a young lad again ( well nearly lol ) so my experiences with the nhs in times of crises has been wonderful, i am currently due a bunion op in march. Im White English, and 66, my ancestors came over with william the conquerer, so over a thousand years, tho l was an immigrant then or would have been lol, we still have the arrow my great great grea great etc fired in someones eye, lol, and before being a norman we were from Viking stock that went to live in France. Red hair runs in my family bit like yours Andrew, so you're likely a viking too, so lets have a bit more stoicism 😂

And all thru the 80s it got the same old same old. 90s the same then the noughties. Twas ever thus everything verging on the brink of collapse but it never does, the glory days of the 60s and early 70s when work was abundant, will never return for a long while. As for the NHS, well my experiences have been great. In 2022 l was diagnosed with rapidly forming cataracts which meant in 6 months l couldnt see anything, they had me in an eye clinic cataracts dissolved new lenses implanted in my eyes full vision better than l hafd 50 years ago within 5 weeks of diagnosis, the same as last year my hip needed replacing 9 weeks after diagnosis it was done last may. Yes it has its faults mostly caused by tory governments trying to cut back on services so they can give thwmselves tax cuts but its still the best country in the world bar none. If you dont like it here you can even emigrate yourself, thats how good it is, Australia and Canada beckon 🫰why not go ?

You can't really defend smoking, it's a killer pure and simple, its proof is out there for all to see, my mum smoked like a chimney and dead at 51 because of it, my dad who took in her and her 3 sisters second hand smoke died of leukemia at 41, l have a list of family and friends killed by smoking or having limbs removed because of it it would take a toilet roll sized scroll to put them all down on, it blocks up hospital beds, and besides anyth8ng else is just disgusting, stinky breath, greasy smokey residue on clothes, there was a study done on identical twin women both were forty five, the none smokers face was clear skinned and practicalky line free, whilst her sister a heavy smoker looked 25 years older, her hair was grey at the front and sides colour bleached out by smoke, but her face was the worst, heavy forehead furrows, deep lines around eyes nose and mouth, with all the fat sucked out of her top lip and the skin which was crumpled and looked like a cats arse all puckered and collapsed in, bloody awful looking, too the smoke had given her early onset cataracts, and her teeth were nearly green, with whitened gums that shrunk away from her teeth faster than the norm. She also had shadows on her lungs that were being investigated. She broke down and sobbed her poor heart out and wished with all her heart she had never taken up smoking.

Obviously im not privvy to your actual circumstances, but the pip rates are there for all to see on yougovuk and benefits.

The older citizens l spoke to in Bruges were very pleasant and really semed to like us Brits above anyone else and they hated the Germans still 50 years on, but they said the war history had been watered down in an effort to smooth over relations with Germany whose economy back in 2000 was very stable. Amazing isn't it, I'm quite liberal and l know banging on about " durin the war " can be a turn off to the young who would rather get on with life which is fair enough forgive maybe we must never forget its lessons.
