USA were wise to stop Ukraine from firing into Russia because it gives Putin the chance to say they are attacking the motherland and gives him the legitimacy however bogus in his own mind to then order a tactical nuclear site on Ukraine He always looks for some half assed legitimacy to hold up, for which reason l do not know, as he's the only one making decisions for Russia he doesn't answer to anyone else, he doesn't really care what his people think or the west or even ultimately his allies China and India, so why he does it is beyond me.
