  2. So the pistons are forced into the swash plate by the compression and power strokes? They don't seem to be connected to the swash plate the way a connecting rod connects the piston to the crankshaft.

  3. More efficient thermodynamically but not mechanically. A simple two or four stroke ohv engine might not have the best thermodynamic efficiency but it's far more simole to build and maintain than an engine with even slightly better thermodynamic efficiency.
