  1. I've heard Timothy Snyder describe russia's basic philosophy as "competitive hopelessness", and he hit the nail on the head. Their idea of progress is to make everything around them worse than what they have - while demonising what they can't destroy - so that the majority of russians will be content with their lot (and the minority will be able to keep stealing from them undisturbed). Respect and gratitute to Sternenko and team for their work, and to the Armed Forces of Ukraine for saving the world from this encroaching horror.
