  1. I've been lucky to hear this woman speak several times and exchange a few words with her. Recently I read her book, The Death of a Soldier Told by His Sister, and I highly recommend it. One of the points she touches on in this talk is developed in her brilliant article Why the West underestimated Ukraine, published in December 2022 in the New Statesman (it looks like there's a paywall but it's free to access - I'd post the link but YT doesn't seem to like people doing that).

  2.  @julianmrv  A country in a state of war is not the same as a country at peace - because war is not the same as peace. So there are democracies at times of peace, and democracies at times of war, and they are going to be inevitably different. @olhazinchuk1024 is right: people need to stop judging Ukraine by peacetime standards.

  5.  @leviefrauim1425  Excuse me, who...? How about using people's actual names instead of dropping these ambiguous semi-trolling comments? Zelensky's been doing his job. Democratic rule can't be the same in wartime as it is in peacetime - that doesn't make him an autocrat. You know very well that Ukraine would be having presidential elections around now if russia hadn't invaded two years ago.

  12.  @starc.  putin temporarily occupied some land that his lackies and his army are now wrecking in every possible way. The rf's border with NATO, has doubled since he invaded. The western military industrial complex is indeed growing. The rf has lost a huge number of men, and its surviving citizens are not welcome in many countries. putin is sinking a ton of money and resources in this completely unnecessary war that he could be using to improve people's lives in the country he was elected to lead. I was trying to be polite by calling that idiotic
