  3. Everyone has that power. Ukrainians did it in 2013/14 without a "second amendment" - they were just brave enough and angry enough to stand their ground when their government put snipers in the tall buildings overlooking the Maidan.

  4.  @peterj5083  Good point, but false equivalence. Jan 6th was an attempt at overthrowing the results of a free and fair election (as has been proven literally dozens of times, including by some judges appointed by the politician who would have benefited from that coup). The Revolution of Dignity was a spontaneous uprising that took place after the head of state proved he was putin's puppet by his last-minute refusal to sign the agreement he had been promising for years, which would have taken Ukranians a small but crucial step closer to Europe as many of them patently wanted. At that point Ukrainians had enough, they peacefully gathered in the Maidan and just refused to go away. They were brutalised. They stayed, and more people joined them. The police started shooting, and then the molotovs started to fly, and putin's puppet fled. Presumably it's second, not the first, that we're all thinking of when we say that "russians should stand up to putin". I'd never needed to put the above into words before and it took a while, so thank you for raising it. If you're interested in the Revolution of Dignity there's a brilliant lecture on YT, part of Timothy Snyder's The Making of Modern Ukraine series but delivered by Marci Shore, a guest lecturer who has researched those events and written a book about it. Just do a search on those terms, it will come up.

  5.  @peterj5083  ☺ I wish I had a time machine just to transport that man back to the '80s, to teach me history when I was a teen! Incidentally, he is married to Marci Shore, the Revolution of Dignity historian I mentioned. Her work is very interesting, and I enjoyed her lecturing style.
