  1. Thank you for this report. I first heard about Ukrainian New York from the wonderful writer Viktoria Amelina, who visited London last April about two months before she killed by russian shelling in Kramatorsk. She had family connections with this town and cared about it deeply, organising a literature festival for the young people of that area. I was lucky to meet her and still have to remind myself she's dead, because it doesn't feel real. That makes it even more heartbreaking to see the devastation of this place, and even more heartening to see the sense of belonging,identity and resistance in the remaining residents. New York will rise from the ashes and rubble, and I hope that one day there will be another arts festival and it will be dedicated to Viktoria. ❤🖤
