@Superfandangoo I agree, great book, just one of the most painful things I've read in my life! And I don't tend to go for easy books. I appreciated your comment, I don't hear much empathy with the people of Afghanistan and certainly not in YT comments. Decades of trauma after trauma after trauma.

@snapdragon6601 Not just the west... they have colonised and traumatised wherever they could reach, and there are many people and populations and territories that bear the scars of that. To pre-empt the usual whatabouting trolls, the rf/russia/muscovy are far from alone in having done that: most western nations have a colonial, imperial past and some still shamefully cling to it (I'm writing from the UK... 'nuff said). Besides, not all imperialism manifests as an aggressive land-grab. But so what? russia is the one doing it right now, they clearly intend to carry on and this has got to stop. Taking a postcolonial approach to this situation is in my opinion the best way to kick imperialism into the past once and for all. Слава Україні!
