I'm really glad to see that work is being done now to restore adequate water supply to those areas, which are suffering - at least in large part - because of the destruction of the dam last year. This is not just because I obviously want people to have access to the water they need as soon as possible, but also because this work being done now means that the baby forest growing once again in the Dnipro flood plain - the Great Meadow - will, hopefully, be preserved after occupying forces are kicked out of Ukrainian territory once and for all. Anyone who hasn't looked into this yet, please do... though I don't know how much has been written about it in English, I've been following Ukrainian sources on this. Actually if the media of any country has been reporting on this, I would love to know. The unexpected regeneration of the Great Meadow, cradle of Cossack culture, flooded decades ago by the soviet union and emptied out again by an unthinkably stupid and brutal act by the latest incarnation of russian imperialism, is the living embodiment of post-traumatic growth.

  2. ​@josephking6515 It's pretty clear from Ukrainian sources (not just videos but also the comments on those videos) that most people are happy for the Dnipro flood plain to be restored to its natural state. The reservoir was apparently very unhealthy ecologically by the time the dam was blown up, I remember people talking about that last autumn, even. I doubt an unnatural reservoir could be better for the environment than a huge carbon sink helping to absorb some of the pollution caused by the war, while restoring the devastated ecology of the region.
