Ukraine is a very rural country, compared to many in the West (that's how they produce so much of the world's wheat and other staples). So a significant portion of the population lives in "settlements" - this could be translated as "villages", but I suspect they're even smaller than villages. Also, "settlement" is a useful translation for населений пункт, an administrative term that literally means "inhabited point".

@mountainfrost7095 How about the poor Ukrainians who've been raped and murdered in their homes and neighbourhoods by invading russian forces, and the poor Ukranians who are trying to defend their country from genocide? Do you ever spare a thougth for them?

That's a very good point. I've always thought that only the UN is in the position to send peace-keeping troops though, and they've been completely paralysed by having the rf in their security council and not having a mechanism to expel them. Can individual countries send peace-keepers without that being interpreted as an offensive move?

@e33d90 I get the impression that he's ex-military. I get that impression from the accuracy of his explanations. His reports have never turned out to be anything but factually correct, he clearly knows what he's talking about, so I don't give a stuff about his "qualifications". If you do, however, no one's forcing you to watch his videos... unless you're being paid to click and troll...? I see no other explanation
