We now see that russian culture has for a long time been construing apathy as a "capacity for suffering" to be fetishized and admired, which clears the way for inflicting more pain, on russia's own citizens as well as others - because if putting up with pain is your identity, you're not going to resist, right...? There is a growing call for decolonising - rather than "cancelling" - the study of russian literature: this is being fiercely resisted by many of its worshippers, so it will be a long process, and comments like yours are definitely a part of it.
