I'm Italian but have been living in the UK most of my life - I agree with you wholeheartedly and I'm finding Italian attitudes to Ukraine and this war very hard to stomach - especially those coming from my nearest and dearest... I've had a couple of nasty arguments with an old friend and one of my cousins, and I don't think I'll ever be able to repair those relationships. I think we need to keep stressing that supporting Ukraine is not about supporting NATO, it's about supporting the struggle for survival and self-determination against imperialism and genocide. This belief that all the evil in the world is ultimately down to NATO is ultimately just good old-fashioned Western narcissism: we really can't believe we're not the baddest baddies on the planet! I've only just discovered it by looking up Yaryna Grusha Possamai, who recently translated Lesya Ukrainka's narrative poem "Forest Song" into Italian (I have the book coming in the post, so excited!). I didn't know about LiberiOltre, beautiful channel that I now intend to start exploring (it will also be good for my Italian, which Yaryna speaks SO much better than I do).They have many other interviews about Ukraine, and that makes me feel a tiny bit better about Italian attitudes to Ukraine.

Soprattutto perché tutte le amiche ucraine che ho a Londra sono tanto appassionate dell'Italia, e tutte le volte che questo non è reciprocato dagli italiani... è proprio mortificante. Più parlo con gli ucraini e seguo le loro fonti direttamente (sto imparando la lingua) più mi rendo conto che gli ucraini sono gli italiani dell'Est... il che fa degli italiani gli ucraini dell'Ovest! Se solo gli italiani se ne rendessero conto
