  1. I live in a ground-floor flat (yes, in London, that's why I say "flat"). Some of my windows open over the end of a close in the middle of a big housing estate. The summer I was sweating over my MA dissertation, some dude who'd moved back in with his grandmother on the close would spend HOURS sitting in his idling car parked right UNDER my window, often on the phone and sometimes doing balloons and giggling inanely. So even without the idling engine, it would have been an immense irritation, but the engine was IDLING. The following summer it was lockdown, and everything that was happening on the close got about 100% worse.
