  1. Catalinas were very involved during the Pearl Harbor attack. One of the first shots fired was when a Catalina (along with a destroyer) attacked an approaching Japanese mini-submarine (this was before the air raid had commenced; unfortunately the news about the intruder didn't get kicked upstairs quickly enough, or wasn't taken seriously enough.) Most of the available Cats were NOT out on patrol at the time of the attack and were destroyed on the ground (or in the water).

  3.  @samsonsoturian6013  I was being sarcastic. Yes, at war's start they had great, experienced air crews. But later on when they were sending kids straight from training to their kamikaze missions it was impossible to accumulate a force of experienced kamikaze crews.😛
