Catalinas were very involved during the Pearl Harbor attack. One of the first shots fired was when a Catalina (along with a destroyer) attacked an approaching Japanese mini-submarine (this was before the air raid had commenced; unfortunately the news about the intruder didn't get kicked upstairs quickly enough, or wasn't taken seriously enough.) Most of the available Cats were NOT out on patrol at the time of the attack and were destroyed on the ground (or in the water).

It failed because they never built up a cadre of experienced pilots, for some reason.

@samsonsoturian6013 I was being sarcastic. Yes, at war's start they had great, experienced air crews. But later on when they were sending kids straight from training to their kamikaze missions it was impossible to accumulate a force of experienced kamikaze crews.😛

Oh for heaven's sake. Yes, the British won the entire war all by themselves. The US just got in the way. Happy now?

There is also a Coronado island, which I assume gave its name to the less-known Coronado seaplane.
