  1. As I understand it, the Japanese forces in Manchuria were in bad shape at least supply-wise. In the summer of 1944, the Japanese army launched a major campaign to push Chinese lines back (in order to overrun B-29 bases; for a brief shining moment the USAAF thought China would be a greast staging area for B-29 attacks on Japan). The Japanese did push the Chinese back, but pretty much wore themselves out in the process. (and of course anyone feel free to correct me if I am totally wrong about this - I won't be offended)
