  3. Let's face it - Putin wants to resurrect the Soviet Union. Besides wanting all the territories back, he waxes nostalgic for the autocratic control, the all-powerful KGB/FSB, the tight control over all media. Even the economy, dominated by a handful of government-approved oligarchs, is reminiscent of the centralized control the politbureau enjoyed. Yes, Putin tries to burnish his conservative credentials by whining about gays, but even that is a step back to communist times.

While Lukashenko languishes in some intensive care ward in Moscow, this would be the perfect time for Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya (Jake will have a task on his hands pronouncing her name LOL!) to simply fly in to Minsk, go to the capitol building, and pronounce herself president pro-tem, to the sound of thunderous applause. Lukashenko can damn well stay in Russia since he loves the place so much.
